About us

  • What's the purpose of the group?
    • To practice philosophy and (try) to reach a usable answer without jeopardizing logical rigors.
  • What will we do in the group?
    • Every topic will be discussed in two separate sessions, we casually exchange views in the first session; and in the second session we practice doing philosophy and try to get to the bottom of the question.
  • Who should join?
    • For the first sessions: Everyone is welcome
    • For the second sessions, they are tailored to the following:
      • Who wants to experience philosophy beyond just recalling history, quotes, and unsupported beliefs.
      • Who wishes to get to the bottom of a topic.
      • Who can appreciate and abide to the Gricean cooperative principle during the discussion. (https://youtu.be/xt4zFGdTUow)
      • Who can take counter examples to their beliefs seriously and change their mind accordingly.
  • Basically, I want to gather people who
    • are a little tired of the rather inconclusive popular-philosophy material out there, and want to go beyond quotes and history of philosophy.
    • are serious about making some actual judgements relate to the many important (philosophy) questions.
    • puts logical rigor (like admitting self-contradicting beliefs or counter examples to one's beliefs) over promoting one's beliefs.
    • are not afraid to discuss controversial issues.
