Building Smarter Coding Agents: The Inner Workings of Software Engineer Agents
Coding agents are changing the way we approach software development. While LLMs are incredibly powerful, building a truly effective coding agent requires much more than a single model. Extensive engineering is needed to enable them to write, understand, and navigate complex codebases. This talk explores the challenges current coding agents face, such as limited means of navigating codebases, being effective only in the 0 to 1 setting, and handling large, complex codebases. We’ll break down how today’s software engineer agents work under the hood and explore how deep code context can enable agents to complete human-level tasks on existing codebases, transforming them into indispensable tools for modern development.
