Do you want to meet new people? Are you interested to discuss the most recent history between 1945 and now? The next book is by a historian and a Guardian columnist Timothy Garton Ash- Homelands. The book is a personal history of Europe from experiences of this historian who is combining historic events with his personal experiences as he lived in different parts of Europe after 1960 and has worked with memories of his father and grandfather who were in the army during 1st and 2nd WW.
How shall I prepare?
1, have a copy of the book-print or otherwise.
2, Read the first 3 chapters by the year 1990. It has approx.180 pages
One ask to think about- bring a historic event /phenomena or anything mundane from "everyday history" that your parents or grandparents shared with you. It does not need to have any objective historic significance, but a memory your parents or grandparents passed to you about the reality in which they lived in.
Registration guidelines
Please only sign up if you have a high confidence you will read the book and will participate in the session. I will be preparing the session based on the size of signed up participants. Thank you for your understanding.
The book club is both social and intellectual space. We will do intro game at the beginning. You are invited to bring and share points that interested you while reading the book. The methodology of the session is sharing, respectful listening and questioning and discussion. We all can bring and share our perspectives to the circle to make our meeting interesting and engaging.
