Take a short road trip to Volland KS, a "ghost town" which used to be a railroad stop with a general store. The old store is now an art venue tucked along the winding Native Stone Scenic Byway through a Flint Hills valley.

The day begins with an opening reception for the art of Jeremiah Ariaz, featuring a talk from the artist at 1:30. Since 2022 he has photographed more than 100 newspaper offices across Kansas for his project The Fourth Estate. The images celebrate the civic function, labor, and technology at the heart of local journalism, while documenting an industry under threat, as are the ideals of democracy the industry upholds.

Later, live fiddle music begins at 4:00, followed by a dinner at 5:45. Music performances include three groups: Betse & Clarke; The Lost Keys; and Beau, Maya, and Aidan Bledsoe. Tickets are $30

The BBQ meal is $20, with a choice of chicken or brisket from Jonny V's.

Tickets for the music and meal are available at https://www.vollandfoundation.org/flint-hills-fiddle-gathering
