Details
Kildonan Park Golf Course Trail to Rivergrove neighbourhood
http://photos2.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/2/4/f/event_39660591.jpeghike length - 7.5 km
This trail along the golf course is an important and scenic Trans Canada Trail link that winds along the banks of the Red River through a majestic canopy of river bottom forest. This pathway also establishes an important precedent by allowing a public trail to be built through a golf course. This is a victory for all trail users who treasure the scenic value of our city’s rivers and creeks.
Our hike route is an 'out and back' on the new golf course trail, under the Chief Peguis Bridge, then along some new trails that border the Red River and take us into the new suburb of Rivergrove and historic McBeth House.
Hike length is 7.5 km (90 to 120 minutes)
This event is open to Prairie Pathfinder walking club members (i.e. members who have paid an annual $25. fee). CONTACT US (prairiepathfinders@shaw.ca) to request a complimentary invitation and try out the club 'for free'. Everyone is welcome to try out a hike or two before deciding to purchase a membership. some points of interest -http://photos4.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/3/9/9/event_39660921.jpeg
Kildonan Park - the many attractions of this popular park include a swimming pool, splendid flower gardens and some of the province’s most ancient trees.
http://photos3.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/4/9/d/event_39661181.jpeg The Witch’s Hut - was built in 1970 and is beloved by generations of Winnipeg children. On the outside the house resembles a gingerbread cottage, on the inside a wicked witch fattens up her captors—Hansel and Gretel. Just outside the hut is the start of a beautiful wooded path, which meanders along a lovely creek.

Built in 1912-13 by Robert McBeth (http://www.mhs.mb.ca/docs/people/mcbeth_r2.shtml), McBeth House sites on land granted to the “McBeath” family around 1817. Moving from their original grant to allow the building of the community’s first church (now St. John’s Cathedral (http://www.mhs.mb.ca/docs/sites/stjohnscathedral.shtml)), this site was continuously inhabited by members of the family until 1984. At that time, the home and property were given to the city for their present use. A plaque was unveiled in September 1987 by the City of Winnipeg to highlight the history of the McBeth House.
