About us
Welcome to Prehistoric Treasures Found One Rock Away. This group is for anyone who has ever wondered what is hidden under the layers of sediment in our local landscape. Whether you are a total beginner who has never picked up a rock hammer or someone who has spent years walking creek beds, this is a space to share the basics of fossil hunting. We focus on the fundamentals: how to identify promising geological formations, the tools you actually need to get started, and the best practices for ethical collecting in our area.
Our goal is to get outside and learn how to read the landscape together. We will organize regular outings to explore local sites, practice spotting specimens, and discuss the science behind what we find. This is a low-pressure group meant for people who enjoy spending a quiet day outdoors and are curious about the deep history beneath our feet. Come along if you want to learn how to look at a pile of gravel and see the pieces of the past hiding in plain sight.
