Improv for the Curious - (A Four Hour Workshop)
Hosted by Improv with Dewey
Details
WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:
In this 4 hour workshop I will lead you through the basic tools of improvisation. I work hard to create an intimate learning environment in which beginning students are encouraged to lean into their vulnerability through play.
Please bring to the workshop:
- A water bottle and a snack for the 15 minute break.
- Comfortable clothing and shoes to allow for free movement.
- Your smile. This is a blast!
WHO SHOULD JOIN MY CLASS?
- Someone who believes it is important to be instructed by a professional actor with years of performance experience to his credit. Someone in search of a welcoming space in which to meet like-minded people and experiment with something totally exciting and new.
- Someone curious about improv who wants to try it for the first time.
- Someone who struggles with social anxiety, low self-esteem, depression, chronic doubt, agoraphobia, mental fatigue, stress, or any other unique challenge you face on a daily basis.
- Someone wishing to socialize more.
- Someone who wants to improve upon her public speaking and presenting skills.
HOW IS MY CLASS DIFFERENT FROM CLASSES HELD AT LOCAL IMPROV THEATERS?
THE COST: Just $75 for four hours of personal instruction. My fee is much less than an improv theater. Improv theaters charge between $250 to $350 per student for a session of improv instruction. I understand that not everyone can afford such a high fee.
PERSONAL ATTENTION: Improv theaters often boast several instructors spread out between levels of instruction. I am the only instructor you’ll have. I strive to thoughtfully and compassionately guide each person in my class through the tenets of improv based upon the individual’s own unique skills and challenges.
THE GOAL: My goal as an instructor is decidedly different from that of most improv theaters. Improv theaters focus upon casting their stage shows by pulling students from their classes. There are many other benefits to improvising that have nothing to do with performing it on a stage. I don’t teach improv to groom you for the stage. My goal is to walk alongside you as you work toward personal enrichment. I simply utilize the tools of improvisation as our road map.
