Mindfulness for Stress Reduction

Details

Stress, or the fight-flight-freeze response, seems ever-present these days. You may have work-related stress on a daily basis, family-related stress, a long commute, or you may lie awake at night, unable to sleep due to rumination.

Stress negatively impacts our health. Stress and cortisol, the stress hormone, have been shown by scientific studies to increase the likelihood of occurrence of heart disease, diabetes, and many other diseases. Plus, stress is unpleasant to experience!

Many studies have shown that a regular mindfulness practice significantly reduces perceived stress, likely by increasing our inner strength. That is, mindfulness increases the spaciousness within so we aren't so overwhelmed by stressors.

Join us as we practice mindfulness meditation and reduce our perceived stress.

We will begin with introductions, with each person saying what brings them to mindfulness. Next, I will speak for about 10 minutes on the topic of mindfulness for stress reduction. Then, we will meditate for 25-30 minutes. Finally, we will have a relational practice in which everyone will get a chance to talk about their practice, and if they like, their stress and mindfulness.

Chairs and cushions are provided; $10, cash or card; you can pay on site.

All are welcome.
