Odin: Intelligent Query Routing and Secure Access Control for Presto at Scale
Odin is a high-performance Presto gateway designed to intelligently route queries across multiple clusters based on specific use cases while providing seamless integration with other query engines like Athena and Spark. It abstracts authentication and authorization mechanisms from underlying engines, allowing users to select their preferred security model based on their requirements.

At Twilio, we have implemented Lake Formation-based authorization within Odin, ensuring fine-grained access control while simplifying security management. By decoupling query execution from authentication, Odin enhances flexibility, scalability, and governance for data analytics workflows, enabling organizations to optimize query performance while maintaining robust security policies.
