This is about 11 mile circular walk, although not a technically difficult walk you do need a good level of fitness for the distance and the hills. Leaving the car we talk a short but steep road to Wheelton Moor, the path has recently been re surfaced with stone.. we follow this path around Wheelton Moor for the gradual 2 mile climb to the summit of Great Hill. Height of 1,250 feet.
On a clear day we can see over to the south Lake Fells and Ingleborough .. from here we descend along two miles of old stone flags, known as Splinters Edge, to a path that skirts across the moorland of Anglezarke Moor. This may be muddy! We also cross a small Ford. From here we follow a quiet but steep decent country lane until we reach Lead Clough Mine. We will have a break at this point. From here there is a short hill to walk until we meet Moor Road that will take us to the lovely wooded area of White Coppice and The Goit which will take us back to the car..
Should the weather be very wet the route may change a little to avoid the Ford crossing..
