This is a circular 7 mile walk. You have to have a good level of fitness for this walk as some of the paths are challenging and steep. All the paths are well established, stoney and in places eroded. There are a few little streams to cross, and areas where we scramble a few rocks, Some of these maybe slippy. There maybe muddy patches.
The first mile and a half we follow The Goit. A flat, but very stoney path, from here there is a very steep, but short path, narrow in parts, that we climb along side White Coppice Quarry. This may be muddy and slippy in parts if it has rained. There is loose stone in a small part of this climb. U will have to use your hands to ascend parts of it. U must be in good fitness to climb this path.
We then follow a worn, stoney path along Black Coppice Moor, until we drop down and cross Dean Black Brook via make shift stepping stones. The path continues through moorland up to Great hill, the path is challenging in parts with narrow paths, muddy and a little bit of scrambling. The fern is overgrown.
The path down from Great Hill is less challenging, and it is still eroded in parts and stoney, and again maybe muddy if rained.
We finish the last mile through Wheelton Plantation.
Waterproof footwear highly recommended, walking poles useful.
There are a number of styles to climb.
There is no break on this walk but water stops as needed. This is a moderate walk with strenuous aspects
