Postcards for Democracy: A Nonpartisan Voter Outreach Event
Details
Join me for a relaxed, hands-on afternoon of civic engagement at my home (In north Austin). We’ll spend some time together addressing postcards for the Austin League of Women Voters. It’s a nonpartisan effort to encourage people to vote in the upcoming midterm election. The target audience is Travis County residents ages 20-40 who voted in the 2022 election but not the 2024 election.
I’ll provide everything you need—including postcards, pens, instructions, and stamps—along with some snacks to enjoy after we write.
Why attend?
This is an easy way to spend an afternoon doing something useful with friends. You’ll get to meet other people who care about civic participation, learn more about nonpartisan voter outreach, and help put a few more friendly reminders in the mail—all without needing to make phone calls or knock on doors.
Come for the postcards, stay for the snacks and conversation, and leave knowing you helped make it a little easier for someone to remember to vote.
Why postcards?
A personal postcard or letter can be a simple but meaningful reminder that an upcoming election is approaching and that voting is an important way to participate in our democracy. Direct mail gives voters a tangible reminder they can keep, and a brief personal message can make voter outreach feel more like a neighbor-to-neighbor invitation than a generic advertisement. The League of Women Voters regularly incorporates direct mail and voter-to-voter outreach into its nonpartisan efforts to engage voters.
