Cinema Empathique #1: Layla

Details

We're super proud to announce our collaborative film event series CINEMA EMPATHIQUE with Edition Salzgeber!

CINEMA EMPATHIQUE invites you to an evening of queer cinema, open dialogue, and meaningful connection.

On the first Saturday of each month, we showcase handpicked films that illuminate the richness of queer life — stories of love, identity, and community that are moving, bold, sometimes challenging, and often deeply beautiful.

After the screening, we open the space for a community conversation:
What resonated with you? What do you want to share?

Our first film is „Layla“ by British-Iraqi writer, actor, drag performer, and filmmaker Amrou Al-Kadhi:

Layla is a struggling Arab drag queen whose confident façade hides their desperate desire for love. When their performance at a belittling corporate Pride event turns into a transgressive takedown, they are surprised to catch the eye of marketing executive Max, whose attentions sweep Layla off their feet. The two start an intoxicating romance, but as Layla starts to alter who they are in order to keep Max's interest, they both have to face uncomfortable truths.

Come as you are, bring your friends, and be part of a growing, inclusive community. Tickets are available via Eventbrite (link in Bio) and are donation-based.

Our venue for the evening is Prince Peach — a warm, fully vegan café in the heart of Prenzlauer Berg, and a cozy haven for creativity, culture, and queer connection.
