Join us for a free photo walk through one of New York's most beautiful treasures – starting at the quiet and serene north end of Central Park and making our way to the bustling, busy Bethesda Terrace.

This event is aimed at beginner and intermediate photographers looking to expand their skills. It's in three parts:

Waterfalls in northern Central Park (2:30 p.m.): We'll hang around the North Woods and the Loch for a guided lesson in waterfall photographer — including long-exposure photography (don't worry if you're a total beginner!).

Casual photowalk south: We'll wander south past Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir, stopping here and there to take it all in. There won't be any formal lesson during the walk — but I (and group members) will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Bethesda Fountain portrait lesson! There's so much to see here — street performers, excited tourists, celebrations, activity on the lake! We'll recruit volunteers from the passers-by for natural-light portrait lessons.

Can't wait to see you there!

Who should come: Anyone looking to learn a little bit more about how their camera works or good technique for taking photos.

What to bring (if you've got it — we'll make do if you don't):

• A DSLR or mirrorless camera, or any other camera that has manual settings

• For waterfalls: Any lens (many people prefer wide ones for these photos)

• Portraits: A prime or zoom lens that can reach a focal length of at least 70mm (on a full-frame camera) or 50mm (on a crop camera). Only have the kit lens? That's OK too.

Portable tripods (Gorillapods are great!) and ND filters are recommended if you have 'em. I'm bringing extra to share and encourage anyone who can too, to.

How to prepare: It's good if you know where to find the basic functions of your camera (even if you don't know much yet about what they're for). Ideally, know how to pick a focus point, and how to change your aperture ("F Number"), ISO and shutter speed.

Where to meet us: You've got options! Any of the following:

• 12:10 p.m.: New Brunswick, NJ Train Station (train departs 12:29 p.m.)

• 1:40 p.m.: Main concourse of Penn Station (by the big Amtrak sign) (We'll leave on the C train by 2 p.m.)

• 2:15: p.m.: Frederick Douglass Circle. We'll enter the park no later than 2:30.

Message me here if you can't find us!
