Enigma is a privacy-preserving blockchain protocol that allows developers to compute over encrypted data. This enables high-functioning, decentralized applications to thrive without compromising the integrity of any data. As a second-layer built on top of the Ethereum blockchain, Enigma gives a much-needed upgrade to smart contracts, making them "Secret Contracts." The technology being used in the architecture of the Enigma protocol was first developed by Israeli researcher Guy Zyskind during his time at MIT, and his thesis on "Decentralizing Privacy" has been cited over 200 times.
