Paddle Lake Carnegie - Delaware Raritan Canal Loop in Princeton
Details
Paddle the Lake Carnegie - Delaware Raritan Canal loop in Princeton, NJ. IMPORTANT: This route will involve a portage (carry) at the trip mid-point. We will move the kayak from Lake Carnegie into the Delaware Raritan Canal for the return trip back to the starting point at Alexander Street at the Princeton Canoe Rental. If you are a beginner, I don’t recommend this event for you given the duration of the trip and the required portage at the mid-point.
The plan would be to take 2-3 hours to complete a tour of the area by starting at Alexander Street at Turning Basin Park and making our way from Lake Carnegie to the Millstone Aqueduct footbridge (about 1.7 miles one way) with a couple of stops at the coves along the way. At the footbridge, we would work together to get the kayaks out of the lake and carrying them 30 yards into the canal (see photo for the portage spot) for the return trip. You wouldn’t need to do this portage activity by yourself as I am happy to assist you but you might want to skip the event if you have any physical issues that would make the portage difficult.
Renters: See this link for rental rates at the location: http://princetoncanoe.com/ (suggest renting for a 3 hour period from 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM).
Note: I have no affiliation with the rental company.
