Something is happening—it’s cold (or too hot) in the world / word is starting to get out, as Brigitte Fontaine was already singing or warning—and we’re not going to keep running a network of exchange and broad sharing, like The Bridge, while pretending that nothing is happening. The fact is that entire swaths of the “cultural sector” (and that’s not even the worst of it) are collapsing one after another into “the icy waters of selfish calculation,” as Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels once sang. It’s no longer worth the effort to work under the increasingly dismal conditions imposed on us by the economic situation (they talk of weak growth, persistent inflation, considerable budgetary pressures, debt, debt, debt…). First, we must put an end to this world’s pathological economism.
Until then, we’ll do two more tours—big or small—and then we’re off: one in the Chicago area in November, another in France in January and February. And, in a cloud of smoke: two upcoming anthology albums on The Bridge Sessions, thanks to our friends at Rogue Art; an art book by Elsa Noyons and Gabriele Stera to be published by Éditions MF; a documentary series directed by Hugo Massa and another music film in the works…
What we’ve inherited—a certain mindset, a certain way of doing things, almost a philosophy—we hope we’ve passed it on in turn since 2013, and will continue to do so until 2027.
