Two-hour hybrid hike split between a 45-minute hike at a slower pace in Mt Hope Cemetery looping back to the cars, followed by a 75-minute moderate hike at a faster pace in Highland Park to admire the vibrant spring blooms, including the fragrant lilacs. Meet at 9:45am on Robinson Dr off Mt Hope Ave (43.13434, -77.61236) for a 10:00am hike start. Robinson Dr has parking only on the east-bound side of the street, so best to drive in from Mt Hope Ave. Please dress for the weather, wear boots or trail shoes with good traction, bring some water to drink and with the warming weather some tick repellent. Our hybrid hikes consist of 2 loops that allow us to drop off hikers who prefer a 40-minute to 1-hour easier hike at a slightly slower pace with less elevation change, then continue for the rest of the 2 hours at a faster pace with some short climbs. This allows all of us to keep hiking together, when some of our old and new friends need to shorten their hike or some are just starting back hiking after a time off or recovering from surgery.

You must read and sign the “club’s release of liability form” which will be available at the parking lot.
NO ONE WILL BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS EVENT without signing a LIABILITY RELEASE FORM.

Tuesday Hike (Hybrid)- Highland Park Lilacs & Mt Hope Cemetery

MT. HOPE CEMETERY

Moderately strenuous (due to length) 10 - 12 mile hike with \~1,400 - 1,800’ of elevation gain. This is not a beginner’s hike. Depending on group size and pace, this hike could take 6 to 7 hours, so please plan accordingly. If you have time constraints, this may not be the hike for you. Please bring a lunch, snacks, plenty of water and a positive attitude.
If you have never hiked Carlton Hill, you are in for a treat. I have hiked there several times and I keep exploring new trails. It is roughly an hour’s drive from Rochester so please plan accordingly.

6:30 pm Gear Swap! Our members will have gear on hand that they are looking to swap and sell. Besides being a way to buy or unload useful outdoorsy things, this is a great way to learn about outdoor equipment. So bring your wares, cash, or questions to the Gear Swap!

7:30 pm Program: Hiking the ‘O’ Route in Patagonia by Luke Nelson.
Luke spent 16 days in Patagonia along with several friends. During that time, they walked among penguins, spent 8 days hiking in Torres del Paine National Park (on the famous ‘O’ Route), hiked down to and along Grey Glacier, walked across several (single-person only) suspension bridges, witnessed avalanches, saw pumas, and watched live glacier calving.

Hiking among the many glaciers and mountains along the route, they witnessed fantastic viewpoints such as Cerro Torre, the needles of Egger and Fitz Roy (the King of Patagonia). The trip also included numerous wildlife sightings and, yes, the infamous Patagonia wind.
