Practitioners, academics, and aficionados within the Chicago area are all invited to be part of a community at the intersection of industry and academia, brought together by a mutual interest in data. Each month, guest speakers will cover a specific data-related topic.

**Title: A Data-Driven Chicago**

**Abstract:** Modernizing IT is a challenge for all government agencies, at all levels. The City of Chicago has charted a bold path and seen successes, as well as learned hard lessons. This presentation looks closely at how Chicago is doing in its efforts in data modernization.

**Bio: Eve Jennings** **currently serves as the** **Director of Enterprise Strategy, Governance, and Analytics for Cook County.** Previously, Eve was the Data Services Lead for the City of Chicago, where she oversaw the CIty's Data Science, Data Analytics, and Data Transparency teams. In this role, she led the City's data management modernization efforts, including migrating to the cloud and standing up a data lakehouse to enable advanced data science capabilities. Eve led the efforts to draft AI guidelines for the City of Chicago and develop the City's on-going GenAI initiative using RAG. Eve previously launched the City's first Data Analytics division and helped draft the City's IT Modernization strategy. Given her efforts, the City was recognized by Bloomberg’s What Works Cities and awarded Gold level certification. Eve is proud to have started her career as a GIS analyst and grown into an experienced technology leader in the public sector.
