**To Bring**: Water to drink, snacks if you like, sun protection. Walking distance is about 3.5 miles.

**Tour description:**
Everyone seems to be fascinated by the West Village, with its old buildings, irregular street pattern, varied nightlife, and fun shops, but what a cool and fascinating history it has! The story of the Village is filled with literary, theatrical and historic figures, beatnicks, political radicals and folkies, along with a strong independent spirit. The Village is where social movements and creative expression has truly had an impact on the world! Stops include Stonewalls (a national historic landmark and national monument), music clubs and theatre venues, the narrowest house in NYC, the last street in Manhattan to be mapped, the site of a prison and a country church from the early 1800's (still in use). You'll get lots of ideas for further exploration on your own.

**Restrooms before the Tour:** Near our meetup spot there are modern public restrooms inside Washington Square Park park (near Washington Square South) as well as food and coffee places on 8th Street and all the around the area. A good option if coming from 6th Avenue (A,C,D,E,F,M subways) is the Jefferson Market Public Library (near 10th Street and 6th Ave.), restrooms are downstairs.

We'll have a restroom break during the walk at Hudson River Park. Tour will end in the Meatpacking District convenient to 14th Street public transportation, along with The Little Island, Whitney Museum, the High LIne, Pier 57 food hall and Chelsea Market.

**Meeting Place**
We'll meet at Central Park's Conservatory Gardens - entrance is 5th Avenue between East 104th & 105th Streets. There are restrooms in the rear of the garden by our meeting location.

**Before the Tour:** **Consider attending El Museo del Barrio**, which opens at 11am and has a pay-what-you-wish admission policy. It is located across the street from our meeting location.

**Directions by Public Transit**: Closest subway station is the 103rd St. stop of the #6. Buses: The M1/2/3/4 goes downtown along 5th Ave. and up Madison if coming from downtown. M96 crosstown gets you fairly close.

**Overview:**
Meet at the rear of the garden by to the left of the fountain near the restrooms. Approximate walking distance is 3 miles.

After a brief exploration of Central Park's only formal gardens, we'll tour East Harlem (also known as El Barrio and Spanish Harlem), taking in street art and murals which have cultural significance. While indulging in the neighborhood history, architecture and current street life, we'll also recount the neigborhood's rich music legacy from Afro-Cuban jazz to New York Salsa, and we'll have some fun playing some pre-recorded music along the walk.

We'll stroll East 116th Street, the "Broadway" of East Harlem and end the tour with an optional lunch at Amor Cubano, located at 111th Street & 3rd Avenue. I will need a head count so be sure to indicate your interested in attending:

Celebrating Latin American Heritage Month with an East Harlem Tour

This event is free with a voluntary donation to your organizer/guide at the end via cash, Venmo or Zelle.

**To Bring:** A picnic lunch, snacks, water to drink, a hat for the sun. Wear sturdy footwear. Please be fit enough to walk up and and down hills and stairs. **Estimated walking distance is 6 miles.** We will have a lunch break with restrooms an an addiitonal break with restrooms later in the tour. Tour ends on Broadway at 211th Street convenient to both the A train (207th Street station), and the #1 at 215th Street. ***Optional afterparty for a drink and/or a bite after the walk.***

**Directions: Take the A train to 190th Street. Take the elevator up to Fort Washington Avenue and Cabrini Boulevard.** Once outside cross the streetand walk about one block south along the wall and to the left of the bus stop. Follow the wall until to reach the entrance to Mother Cabrini's Shrine. Address is 701 Fort Washington Ave.

**There are decent restrooms inside and I will be there to direct you.**

**Walk Description:**
After a short and informative visit to the pleasant Hudson Heights section of Washington Heights, we'll traverse Fort Tryon and Inwood Hill parks, two of NYC's most beautiful green spaces. Fort Tryon Park, features the lovely heather gardens and glorious Hudson River views and of the cliffs of the Palisades of New Jersey. We'll pass by The Cloisters, the Medieval Art branch of the Metropolitan Museum of art. The building itself is amazing: an assemblage of 13th century French and Spanish cathedrals.

Inwood Park features rugged, almost primeval terrain, caves and rock shelters once used by American Indians, and the last remaining salt marsh on Manhattan. Along the way, we’ll learn about the history and evolution of the Washington Heights and Inwood neighborhoods which border the parks and take in some distinctive residential architecture from medieval to art deco. We'll also pass by the last remaining farmhouse in Manhattan and experience a bit of the residential section of Inwood and its art deco apartment buildings.
