Hello, dear French Club member :)

In December 2025, I conducted my first-ever 5-day French Immersion Experience in Nice (France) with a group of six participants. Their feedback was extremely positive and highlighted what made the experience meaningful on many levels — personal, cultural, linguistic, social, and emotional.

Participants described the immersion as a rich cultural experience that connected them to real French life: coastal towns, local markets, concerts, wine culture, and historic sites. Being immersed in daily rhythms, landscapes, and traditions made French feel concrete and alive rather than abstract or academic.

They also emphasized the strong sense of community that developed. Within just a few days, a group of strangers became a warm, supportive team. For many, the friendships and connections formed during the immersion were among the most meaningful parts of the trip.

A key benefit was increased confidence in using French. Speaking throughout the day, handling real interactions, and being surrounded by the language helped them feel more open and comfortable using French in their daily lives afterwards.

Finally, the immersion fostered personal growth and resilience. Participants noted that group travel naturally brings moments of adjustment and the need for flexibility — but meeting those moments with openness made the experience even richer. For them, the immersion became not just a learning opportunity but a memorable life experience.

Because of this success, I’m excited to offer a new series of Immersion Experiences in 2026.

This French Immersion Experience will take place in Quebec City in June 2026. It will be given in a 3-day format, which is ideal given the amount of walking required in this beautiful but hilly historic city.

My role: French language coach, cultural guide, and translator — available 8 hours/day (9:00 am–5:00 pm).

Meals: At your own expense (not included in the 300 USD fee).

Accommodation: Participants arrange their own lodging in Old Quebec City.

Arrival/Departure: Please arrive by June 9, 2026 (latest). Depart anytime after the immersion ends on June 12.

Not included: Flights, lodging, meals, airport transfers, visas, museum entry fees, and personal expenses.

It comes to 100 USD per full day, including guided French sessions, cultural activities, program design, and full-time support in a small-group setting.

Comparable weekend language retreats generally range from 350 to 800 USD, often with larger groups and less personalized guidance. Even single-day language workshops in major cities usually cost 120–250 USD per day.

This immersion offers excellent value while remaining accessible and sustainable.

**What to Expect**

We will be practising the **speaking tasks** included in the **TCF exam**. This is meant for French students who are TCF exam aspirants to get together and practice the exam-oriented speaking tasks with each other. **There will be no teacher present to give professional feedback.** We will try all the tasks or mix and match every week.

**Task 1:** This will cover answering personal questions about your daily life, studies, work, and interests. You should try to speak clearly and give complete answers. This activity would help you build confidence and improve basic communication skills.

**Task 2:** We will engage in role-plays which will simulate real-life situations such as booking a hotel, asking for information, or making a complaint. This would prepare you for interactive tasks in the exam.

**Task 3:** We will practice Opinion and Argument Task where a topic will be presented to you (e.g., social media, education, environment) and you must express your opinion. You should explain your ideas and support them with reasons. This activity would help you develop structured and coherent speech.

In addition, there will be other activities like reading articles and producing a summary of them, as well as picture description.

**L'immersion à Québec — mars 2027**

Pour ceux et celles qui souhaitent aller plus loin, le cycle de lecture est aussi le point de départ d'une immersion de cinq jours à Québec, du 16 au 20 mars 2027.

Chaque matinée commencera autour d'un déjeuner dans un café de la ville, suivi d'un atelier de deux heures consacré à l'un des livres du cycle.

Les après-midis seront dédiés à la découverte de la ville : le Vieux-Québec, le Monastère des Augustines, la Citadelle, le Musée de la civilisation, l'Assemblée nationale et le Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec.

Les soirées resteront libres, avec des activités optionnelles pour ceux qui le souhaitent.

Ce n'est pas un voyage touristique. C'est une semaine où le français se vit pleinement, dans les rues, les cafés et les institutions culturelles d'une des plus belles villes d'Amérique du Nord.

La participation à l'immersion requiert la lecture d'au moins cinq des sept livres du cycle. Les places sont limitées.

**Course Description**

This A1-level French course is designed for absolute beginners who have no prior knowledge of the language.

Over the course of 10 weeks, learners will build a strong foundation in French through speaking, listening, reading, and writing.

By the end of the program, students will be able to introduce themselves, ask and answer simple questions, hold basic conversations, understand everyday expressions, and use fundamental grammar structures.

This course follows the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and prepares students to reach the A1 level, enabling them to interact in basic French in real-life situations.

**Course Outline – 10 Weeks of Learning**

**Week 1: Foundations of French**

* Vocabulary: Basic greetings, introducing yourself, numbers 0-100, days of the week
* Grammar: Subject pronouns (je, tu, il/elle, nous, vous, ils/elles), definite/indefinite articles (le, la, un, une, des)
* Speaking & Listening: Introducing yourself, greeting others formally/informally
* Reading & Writing: Writing a short self-introduction
* Homework: Practice dialogues, listening exercises

**Week 2: Talking About Yourself & Others**

* Vocabulary: Family members, nationalities, professions
* Grammar: Present tense of être and avoir (to be and to have), adjective agreement (petit/petite, français/française)
* Speaking & Listening: Describing yourself and your family
* Reading & Writing: Writing a short text about your family
* Homework: Flashcards for professions & adjectives, listening to beginner dialogues

**Week 3: Daily Life & Regular Verbs**

* Vocabulary: Common verbs, daily routines (se lever, manger, travailler, dormir)
* Grammar: Present tense of -ER verbs (parler, aimer, habiter), forming negative sentences (ne... pas)
* Speaking & Listening: Talking about daily habits and routines
* Reading & Writing: Describing a typical day
* Homework: Conjugation exercises, watching a short French video

**Week 4: Places, Directions, and Prepositions**

* Vocabulary: Cities, transportation, places (école, banque, supermarché)
* Grammar: Prepositions of place (à, de, sur, sous, devant, derrière), the verb aller
* Speaking & Listening: Asking for and giving directions
* Reading & Writing: Writing short sentences about your city
* Homework: Practicing directions, listening to French street dialogues

**Week 5: Shopping, Food, and Ordering in a Café**

* Vocabulary: Common foods, numbers 100+, ordering at a restaurant
* Grammar: Articles partitif (du, de la, des), quantities (beaucoup de, un peu de)
* Speaking & Listening: Ordering food and drinks
* Reading & Writing: Writing a grocery shopping list
* Homework: Watching restaurant ordering videos, role-playing dialogues

**Week 6: Future Plans and Basic Conversations**

* Vocabulary: Talking about free time, future activities (cinema, sports, travel)
* Grammar: Futur proche (aller + infinitive), expressing likes/dislikes (j’aime, je préfère)
* Speaking & Listening: Talking about weekend plans
* Reading & Writing: Writing about your future plans
* Homework: Listening to audio on leisure activities, creating your own future plans

**Week 7: Talking About the Past**

* Vocabulary: Common past actions (hier, la semaine dernière, déjà)
* Grammar: Passé composé (with avoir for regular verbs)
* Speaking & Listening: Talking about what you did last weekend
* Reading & Writing: Writing a short paragraph about a past experience
* Homework: Reading a simple story in past tense

**Week 8: Travel, Transportation, and Asking for Help**

* Vocabulary: Transportation (bus, train, taxi, avion), emergency phrases
* Grammar: Questions (où, quand, comment, combien), the verb pouvoir
* Speaking & Listening: Asking for help, booking tickets
* Reading & Writing: Filling out a travel form
* Homework: Practicing travel dialogues, listening to real-life recordings

**Week 9: Invitations, Socializing, and Giving Opinions**

* Vocabulary: Social phrases (on va au cinéma ?, pourquoi pas ?, c’est une bonne idée !)
* Grammar: The imperative (regarde ! écoute ! parle !)
* Speaking & Listening: Inviting someone, accepting/refusing
* Reading & Writing: Writing a short invitation message
* Homework: Practicing role-plays, writing social messages

**Week 10: Final Review & Everyday Conversations**

* Vocabulary: Review of key topics
* Grammar: Reinforcing present, past, and future tenses
* Speaking & Listening: Role-playing real-life scenarios (restaurant, shopping, travel)
* Reading & Writing: Writing a final paragraph about yourself
* Final Assessment: Speaking practice & review exercises

**Learning Outcomes**

By the end of this 10-week course, you will be able to:

\* Use common verbs in the present, past, and near future
\* Ask and answer simple questions in social situations

\* Read and understand basic French texts (menus, timetables, invitations)
