Salsa is a vibrant and globally celebrated Latin dance style with roots in the Caribbean with a dynamic blend of cultural influences like 🇵🇷 Puerto Rican, 🇨🇺 Cuban, and 🇩🇴 Dominican cultures. Different styles, such as 🇨🇺Cuban 🇺🇸 NYC 🇺🇸 L.A. and 🇨🇴 Colombian emphasize unique musical interpretations and movement patterns, ranging from circular to linear. Whether dancing on the social dance floor or performing on stage, salsa pulses with energy, elegance, and the vibrant spirit of Latin culture!

🇦🇴 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐊𝐢𝐳𝐨𝐦𝐛𝐚?
Kizomba evolved from Semba, a traditional form of dance and music that has its roots in Angola. After gaining independence from Portugal, Angola was plunged into a civil war in 1975, which lasted until 2002. During this tumultuous period, the release of new Semba music dwindled, leading Angolans to seek musical inspiration elsewhere such as the Caribbean and Cape Verde

As Kizomba music became more popular, Angolans began to merge the music with Semba steps, adapting to the slower rhythms of these new musical styles. This fusion gave birth to Kizomba dancing. Today, you may find people dancing to other musical genres such as Cola-Zouk and Cabo-Love from Cape Verde.

🇩🇴 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐁𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐭𝐚?
Influenced by Iberian, African, and Indigenous cultures. Bachata is a traditional genre of music & dance originating from the Dominican Republic, developed during a time of government and media censorship. Bachata was first disparaged due to classism but is now a nostalgic keepsake for many Latin cultures. As Dominican people migrated outside the Dominican Republic, the opportunity for Bachata’s commercialization would take the genre to new heights.
