**Vyjayanthi Neha Vadrevu is an applied anthropologist and founder of www.rasa.nyc, and former adjunct professor of Applied Anthropology and Autoethnography at the City University of New York. She has led clients on research strategy ranging from fintech to fashion; influencing product innovation to brand strategy. Most recently, she led the IaaS team of a Fortune 100 tech company through the development of a product roadmap strategy for incremental innovation till 2025. She co-launched the Hidden in Plain Sight (HiPS) Meetup in NYC, which explored the current and future applications of the behavioral and social sciences to solve real-world problems through monthly meetups. Her foundation for ethnographic research began with her training in Indian classical dance - she uses movement and prose to connect with the deepest parts of the human experience.**

**Why Do LLMs Hallucinate?**
**PRESENTATION SUMMARY:**
**🔹 After ChatGPT took the industry by storm, everyone is now working to implement LLM-powered applications and trying to understand how to best apply this incredible innovation within their own business and to benefit their customers. One of the key issues with LLMs is hallucination, the tendency of large language models to make up responses that could be inaccurate or even completely incorrect.**
**🔹 In this talk, I will discuss why hallucination occurs and some of the ways to address it, such as retrieval-augmented generation (aka grounded-generation). Finally, I'll show a demo of an LLM-powered tool for asking questions about recent news, which uses Vectara Grounded Generation to mitigate hallucinations.**
**ABOUT OFER MENDELEVITCH:**

**Ofer Mendelevitch leads developer relations at Vectara. He has extensive hands-on experience in machine learning, data science, and big data systems across multiple industries. Since 2019, Ofer has focused on developing products using large language models. Prior to joining Vectara, he built and led data science teams at Syntegra, Helix, Lendup, Hortonworks, and Yahoo! Ofer holds a B.Sc. in computer science from Technion and an M.Sc. in EE from Tel Aviv University. He is also the author of "Practical Data Science with Hadoop" (Addison Wesley).**
