7:00 - 7:30pm Beyond ReST - A theoretical foundation for improved developer productivity by Brennan Saeta (Coursera)

ReST/JSON APIs have become very popular to build interactive webpages, mobile apps, and inter-microservice communication. Coursera has used these sorts of APIs for years. However, the nature of our scale has pushed us towards stronger theoretical foundations to maintain developer productivity. Naptime ( https://github.com/coursera/naptime ) is the result of our learnings. Due to its overwhelming popularity with engineers, over 99% of all new APIs and the vast majority of existing APIs are implemented with Naptime.

7:30 - 8:00pm Real time Insights by Seth Katz (Netflix)

Netflix developers frequently need access to data streams. This is especially true for real time troubleshooting. It’s also useful for fast canary analysis and real time insights to shorten development cycles. Netflix has developed a stream processing platform called Mantis that allows us to build applications that consume streaming data, primarily focused on operational insights use cases.

This talk will cover one of those applications, Raven, which simplifies the task of running streaming queries on top of Mantis. Learn how we use it at Netflix to simplify the operational experience for developers.
