The lost art of product storytelling
Doug Nestor - Senior Product Manager for Google, Potato
👤 - Doug has been messing around with technology since the days of tape-drive Sinclair ZX Spectrums, fondly remembering loading the Platoon game before dinner, hoping it hadn’t crashed while eating his fish fingers. Cutting his teeth in advertising and comms agencies in the early 00’s, Doug morphed into a product role as precursors of digital marketing and brochureware evolved into digital products integral to businesses.
Doug’s helped many businesses launch technically complex products - from early IBM Watson chatbots for Versus Arthritis, to vehicle apps for Honda. Today he works with Google, helping Android developers navigate the delicate collection of frameworks, libraries and tooling versions to build great apps.
📢 - Triggered by a firehose of bland CV job applications last year, Doug has jumped on a soapbox about the lack of storytelling in our industry - from personal stories to product visions.
We talk about the classic triangle - designers bring usability and elegant experience, engineers bring feasibility and elegant code, product brings viability and an inspiring value proposition. But we need to communicate this work in a memorable way that demands attention. We need to tie it together with a great story.
Expect a few rants, audience participation and perhaps if you’re lucky a few useful things to help your communications be more captivating and persuasive.

Chris has been in the natural language processing space for 8 years and first started his career serving 6 years in the Royal Air Force as a software testing engineer, testing new weapon systems for the Eurofighter Typhoon.
📢 - What are AI agents, how they work and the challenges to overcome to get them into production.
