Opportunities and Requirements around the European Accessibility Act

Dear Product People in Cologne:

The European Accessibility Act, approved in 2019, comes into effect on 28 June 2025.

The Act mandates that a range of products and services such as consumer electronics (TVs, smartphones, computers, gaming consoles, etc.), ticketing and vending machines, websites and mobile acts, among others, comply with accessibility requirements for persons with disabilities.

This means paying attention to certain design patterns, and checking whether for example it is possible to interact with your website using a screen reader or voice commands.

Many of us clearly benefit from better contrast, larger fonts and other design choices. This goes way beyond benefitting disabled humans.

We'll look at smart design choices and explore together what you need to know and where the opportunities lie in making your websites a more user-friendly experience for all your potential customers. There is revenue potential here.

Konstantin will speak about "Accessibility 101: From Product to Sales". He will lay a foundation with what the new legislation even is and how to develop commercially successful experiences from a perspective of inclusivity.

Karoline and Sandra will showcase how you might use AI storytelling to create more empathy with the designer, developers and product people in your organization to inspire action towards building a more inclusive web.
