Our first speaker we are happy to welcome Thomas Brouwer:
Level up your career with Proactive Communication
What do you think is the most important requirement for a product manager to have impact? For me, the answer is trust. Product managers aren't people managers. We usually don’t have direct authority; we can’t use our line of reporting to tell others what to do. Instead, we exercise soft influence, guiding our team and stakeholders in what we believe is the right direction. In this process, they will often ask themselves: do I trust this person to be able to solve the issue?
Make it easier for everyone around you to trust you. A key aspect to gaining trust is proactive communication. I have noticed that many product managers don’t proactively share enough, and I believe it’s a key reason why they don’t progress to or beyond the senior level. A lack of communication means your senior stakeholders don’t know what’s going on, and they will fill in the blanks for you. In this talk, I will share several practical ways in which you can leverage proactive communication to level up your product impact, and as a result progress your career.
About Thomas Brouwer
In his time working at Yelp, Blinkist, and Apheris, Thomas has tackled a variety of B2B and B2C products involving data and machine learning, as well as strong go-to-market components. Through this experience he has learned the value of being data-driven, but also of being a clear and structured communicator. Much like during his PhD in machine learning, just doing the work is often not enough. You also need to communicate about it in the right way - whether it's a paper, presentation, or Slack message. He is excited to share practical tips and tools from the last ten years. Follow Thomas on Linkedin!
Our second speaker is KP Frahm, what you need to know…
Hello, Product Sense!
Product Sense will become even more important“ — this is a quote I picked from a post by Lenny Rachitsky titled „How AI will impact product management“. Because I think this is very true. So, it’s probably a good time for us to approach the idea of Product Sense then. What does it mean? In what way does it help us in times of constantly improving AI? And most importantly, what can we do to improve our Product Sense?
About KP Frahm
KP is one of the creators of the Product Field, a sense-making framework for teams that build products. Since we introduced the Product Field in 2015 at … 🥁🥁🥁… Product Tank Hamburg (!), we have used it to map, assess and model hundreds of products great and small. At some point, he realised that the Product Field is no longer just a practical tool for collective sense-making, but has increasingly become our framework for product sense-building. And he’d really like to share how it looks like in practice and how you can use it, too. Learn more about KP on Linkedin.
