Hi Product People!

It's time for another ProductTank Lisbon meetup! This time you will learn from two speakers how they apply Job-to-be-Done, a theory of customer motivation, to build and grow products that customers will buy and use.

After the presentations, there will be time for networking over drinks and snacks, thanks to our sponsors from Productized Conference 2017 (http://www.productized.co), the product thinking conference.

Are you interested in talking to 80+ ProductTank Lisbon people about a Product-related topic? If so, then please submit your proposal via our short call for speakers form (https://goo.gl/forms/Te9Z4J1FJ95j10lm2).

Talk title: Don’t build product features, enable customer progress!

Talk Summary: "Customers don’t want your product or what it does; they want help making their lives better, i.e. they want progress." - Alan Klement, http://www.whencoffeeandkalecompete.com/

The above quote describes one of the core principles of Job-to-be-Done, a theory of motivation. In my talk, I will share how applying Job-to-be-Done thinking fundamentally changed my understanding about the purpose of products and the organisations who create them. I will briefly introduce you to Job-to-be-Done and will then showcase how enabling customer progress rather than building features will help you create products that customers will buy.

Bio: Rene helps businesses build and sell products customers will buy. In his workshops, hands-on coaching sessions and consulting projects, his clients learn how to practically apply customer-centred product discovery and innovation frameworks such as Lean Startup and Jobs-To-Be-Done. They will gain insights that will help them decide what changes they may want to make to their product(s), marketing efforts and sales conversations in order to increase revenues.

Prior to moving from London to Portugal in August 2015, Rene was responsible for the corporate R&D team of Pearson, the largest education company in the world, and held Product Manager roles in both small and large companies in various industries ranging from Sports to Education, Travel, Media, Social Networking and Betting & Gaming”.

Speaker 2: Andre Albuquerque, Head of Growth at Uniplaces (https://www.uniplaces.com/)

Talk title: Get your product hired by finding fit

Talk Summary: Every problem in the world has already been solved: the majority just not efficiently. Learn how Uniplaces leverages Jobs-to-be-Done to build a product that solves their customers’ problems, creates magic and brings users happiness, whilst unlocking growth for their company.

Bio: Andre leads Product Management for B2C Products (students), Mobile, Data Products, Growth and Insights/Analytics. He also considers himself lucky to work with an insanely talented design, engineering and data science teams that actually build everything he mentioned.

Apart from that, Andre works on whatever is needed to make Uniplaces grow. Some other stuff his teams did before Product: started the Marketing Team, which grew to a 25-people group, started the Data Team, which is now within Engineering, started the Education Team, which now has 150+ ambassadors and partnerships across 6 countries, started the Growth Practice which is now within Product.

Uniplaces are building beautiful products to transform the journey of every single student in the world. Today is housing. Tomorrow will be whatever is needed to solve problems and bring happiness to their users.
