ProductTank November
Details
ProductTank November is all about our connected world of things. We are now living in a world where the web has spilled beyond the screen and into the physical world: connected devices are becoming commonplace and the smart home is now a reality. But what challenges does the Internet of Things bring from a design and product management perspective?
This evening's speakers, curated by Alison Austin (https://twitter.com/alicenwondrlnd), will share their experiences of developing products for this brave new world.
Speakers
Alexandra Deschamps-Sonsino | Product & interaction designer. Entrepreneur. Founder of the Good Night Lamp (http://goodnightlamp.com/). Former Co-Founder and CEO of Tinker London (http://tinkerlondon.com/). Organiser of the Internet of Things meetup (https://www.meetup.com/iotlondon/) in London.
Alexandra will talk about how the Internet of Things has emerged from the maker movement and not the design community. She will discuss the influence of software development, the importance of hardware hacking tools, spaces and communities that have led to the burgeoning transformation of a traditional industrial landscape driven by defunct approaches to product development.

Claire Rowland | UX strategist, design manager and researcher with a particular interest in experience design for the Internet of Things. She's currently the service design manager for http://AlertMe.com , a connected home platform provider and writing a book for O'Reilly on UX design for the Internet of Things.
Claire will talk about how the Internet of Things is still a heavily technology driven field, where many of the products and services are still mostly of interest to early adopters. She will discuss how, as the technology matures, understanding how to create compelling and usable everyday products for mass market users will be crucial. What might make a good IoT product and UX?

Formally, as a Product Manager at British Gas Connected Homes (the organisation's corporate startup) and Business Consultant at Detica, Alex has 10 years experience helping big companies use new technology to grow their businesses. Alex is passionate about all things connected and the intersection between business, technology & design.
Based on his experience, Alex will be talking about the role of Product Management in a world where devices are cheap and everything's connected.
