Design thinking

Barb Spanton from Varian Medical Systems will be talking about "How to bring Design Thinking into your thinking."

Design Thinking continues to get much attention as an effective way to embed human-centered innovation into teams, products, and processes. Whether you perceive it as common sense, or a strict process to be adhered to - Barb will break down the steps of Design Thinking and share a practical approach to identify and adopt specific practices that will have the greatest impact on your teams and your products.

With 20+ years’ experience working in UX, Barb has contributed to this ever-evolving industry in a range of capacities. For the past 10+ years, Barb has been applying a human-centered approach to help cross-disciplinary teams tackle some of healthcare’s most challenging problems. Currently she leads a global UX team working on products and services that support the delivery of cancer care.

Highly active in the UX community, Barb has organized and spoken at industry events, and also has has taught our next generation of designers entering the industry.

In addition we will also have Harman Bhutani presenting "Design thinking with Data Science": How design thinking is helping and driving Engineers to develop AI products for various levels of project development such as empathy, ideate, define, test, and prototype.

Harman Bhutani is an AI Enthusiast and Machine Learning Engineer by
Profession. Currently he is working as a Data Scientist at Meta Innovation
Technologies, and pursuing a Masters in Data Science from the
University of Ottawa. Before that, he worked with companies
such as Accenture, Google, T-Mobile, Hum-Hain, and entrepreneur
TechOrion.

He also loves organizing, competing, and sometimes winning
Hackathons such as "TEDx Ottawa", "TiE hack in the north", "Bill and
Melinda gates foundation Medical Hackathon ", and most recently "MIT
Virtual Reality " at MIT, Boston. His favourite food is a circle cut into triangles wrapped in a
square i.e. pizza.
