AI Product Builder at Scale: The New Hybrid
How the product role, process and tools are changing - and how orgs make the switch

ProductTank Vienna is back with our 🍁🍂 Fall Edition — and we're moving past the demo stage. Where our last event explored the greenfield of AI product building, this one is about getting it done at scaled organizations.

↘️ Prototypes are cheap, fast, and everywhere, but what happens when you have to turn them into real products for millions of users or enterprises in regulated industries?

↘️ For this edition, we're bringing together two companies that have already rebuilt their product processes around AI to ask them how it's actually going. Join Lisa Gringl-Novy (Head of Product at refurbed), Markus Hafellner (Senior Manager Product Builders at Camunda) — two product leaders scaling AI-native workflows from the inside — for a candid look at how the product process, tools, and roles are changing, and how orgs make the switch.
Expect honest takes, lively discussion, and room to push back, hosted and moderated by Markus Rothmüller (Principal for Product & Growth at Trinsik and Co-Host at Product Tank)

Agenda

Intro
AI is widening the gap between strong product orgs and the rest, not closing it. Following Marty Cagan's latest insight (The AI Productivity Paradox), the real advantage was never only delivery speed — it's culture, strategy, and discovery skills. The winning edge comes from strong discovery skills paired with delivery speed, supported by the right tools and strategy/culture.

AI Product Builder Process - What changes?
Both teams have redrawn the stages of product building and compressed the time between them. We'll compare the two models side by side: what each stage actually involves, where the time savings come from, and what gets lost or has to be rebuilt when the cycle gets this fast.

This event will be structured into four sections with both presenters sharing their insights along these.

1. AI Product Builder Process - Discovery: From Idea to Prototype
Who owns discovery when everybody builds and what levels of discovery are owned where in a scaled team setup? One approach we will discuss is enabling teams with AI-native discovery and validation processes while running strategic discovery for company level product initiatives.

2. AI Product Builder Process - Scaling it into Production
Prototype code is not production code. This block is about the hard part: getting AI-generated prototypes ready for shipment to a real customer base, deciding who owns what along the way, and setting up teams so the process holds up beyond a single squad. Regulatory and compliance requirements come in here too — because at scale they're not optional.

3 AI Product Building Tools and Setup
What does the tooling landscape look like when AI is part of the workflow rather than a sidecar? refurbed will share how their knowledge base & design system connect to Claude / Claude Design and Lovable so the AI works with real context when creating prototypes for the experiments. Camunda, as an orchestration platform, can speak both to their own setup and to how they help clients wire AI into their processes.

4. The New Hybrid AI Product Builder Role and Skill Set
Perhaps the biggest shift: hybridisation. When UX plus product, or engineering plus product and business, merge into a single "builder" role that owns a feature end to end, what does that mean for careers, hiring and team structure? We close with the question every product person in the room will take back to their own team.

Both refurbed and Camunda are actively hiring and training for these hybrid roles:

  • Lisa Gringl-Novy (refurbed) will share insights from hiring multiple hybrid PMs and training internally, covering what candidates should consider when applying for these roles.
  • Markus Hafellner (Camunda) will walk through his experience hiring two Senior Product Builders and how they structure internal development

About the Speakers

Lisa Gringl-Novy is Head of Product at refurbed, leading several hybrid product managers who work on the e-commerce marketplace. Her background is in UX and tech. She moved into product because she was drawn to connecting customer problems with business problems and finding solutions that work for both. One of her core beliefs is to experiment, learn, and iterate fast. That’s also why she is especially excited about the new wave of AI tools: they give refurbed a huge opportunity to increase the speed of experimentation and learning in product.

Markus Hafellner is Sr. Manager Product Building at Camunda, bringing extensive product leadership experience from previous roles as Product Director at Bitmovin and Head of Product at Radancy. At Camunda, he focuses on pioneering structured AI-native product processes and orchestration, helping teams bridge the gap between initial AI prototypes and robust enterprise production.

Markus Rothmüller is Principal for Product and Growth at Trinsik and one of the hosts of Product Tank Vienna.
