Making Bets and Tricky Decisions

Details
It's been way too long between events, but we're back for 2024!
Can't wait to hear from Prae Songprasit, founder of NZ Tech Rally and Lead UX Engineer at Xero.
She'll be sharing a fascinating story about planning for an event, with all the best intentions but not necessarily the intended outcomes. A story that most product people will resonate with, for sure!
In Prae's words...
Three people tried to do the right things with limited resources. It’s a classic small product team / bootstrap startup scenario.
In 2023, the NZ Tech Rally team set out to make our inaugural software conference more accessible than any other in the local market, at an affordable price tag.
Well, things backfired big time!
We made bets that failed and learnt some expensive lessons. But the team is still going to try again in 2024. Why? What are we planning to do differently?
In this talk, I will share some of the problems and constraints we encountered, how decisions were made, and what gave the team strength to try again.
How might we make decisions with more conviction, know when to stop, and fail in a way that does not demoralise the team? These lessons are applicable for anyone who is responsible for making decisions at work.
