Art in motion: Making art on the skytrain
Details
A big part of being an artist is noticing and recording the world around us. In this workshop, the skytrain is our art studio and observation laboratory.
We'll ride the Millennium Line together from VCC Clark to Lafarge Lake (45 minute ride), and work alone or in small groups on a series of prompts that ask us to pay attention to different aspects of the experience. You can record your responses to the prompts in your sketchbook or journal using whatever methods and materials appeal to you (writing, drawing, photos, video, painting, knitting, etc - be creative).
We'll meet at the VCC Skytrain Station for introductions to each other and to the process. We'll then board the train and sit together to work through the prompts. When we get to the end of the line at Lafarge Lake, we'll take some time together to review our notes and share our creative insights and discoveries.
At Lafarge Lake, you have the option of joining a second meet up at the Evergreen Cultural Centre to take in the art exhibition Sharni Pootoogook: Creatures, Shadows, and Dreams. The exhibition is free to the public.
*Supplies - bring your own sketchbook or journal, drawing and/or writing materials, and anything else portable you'd like to play with to record your observations.
*Note: Each person is responsible for their own transit fare on the Skytrain!
