Presentations from Roundtable Software and Data Plus

Details

This evening will feature two presentations, beer and pizza. Come spend an evening hanging out with the local Progress Community, including members of the OpenEdge development team.

  1. Data Plus

In 1990, faced with the demise of the minicomputer market, Data Plus migrated its Hospitality-specific back office system to Progress. For an IDE, Xponent, itself written in Progress, was chosen to provide forms-based Progress 4GL code generation, report generation, and source code control. Continued development of the Xponent system itself ended a number of years ago, and we realized that a complete system rewrite was required to modernize the application using Object Oriented programming with modern n-tier architecture. We were able to bring the current code up to OE 11 as a stop-gap measure to continue deployment on current client and server operating systems. After two-plus years we are about to launch the eighth generation of our product using GUI for .NET, an OO programming style and the Progress App Server. This presentation is intended to describe the evaluation and selection process that we went through with the assistance of Progress and others in the Progress community to create an entirely new system.

  1. Roundtable Software Projects must be on time and under budget. With ever increasing demands, maintaining mature, consistent software configuration management practices is critical to ongoing success … but is not always an easy thing to accomplish. Built on and for the OpenEdge platform, Roundtable TSMS can provide the tools to make those practices clear, repeatable, and scalable, while also reducing time-to-market, improving product quality, and ensuring SOX compliance. This presentation explores how the Roundtable TSMS plug-in for Progress Developer Studio helps to provide these benefits and more for hundreds of OpenEdge development teams worldwide, large and small, putting them firmly in control of their development projects.

We expect members of the progress OpenEdge development team to be present at this meetup well.

We will serve Pizza, Beer and Soft drinks. Looking forward to seeing you.
