April 11 Progressive Southside Women meeting
Details
The discussion topic for Saturday April 11 is the Myers Briggs. I was profoundly impacted by learning about the Myers Briggs in my early 30s. My type (INFP) is rare- between 2 and 5% of people, so I found most people slightly mystifying. Learning what makes the other types tick was enormously useful because it enabled me to understand their needs and values which were previously often confusing or annoying. For example, I am a P (perceiving type), which means I am comfortable with open-endedness, change, flexibility, shifting position based on new data. I had a job where the owner was also a P and told me to work whenever I felt like it, so long as I got the hours in. The office manager was a J and this drove her crazy. After I comprehended her J need for structure and predictability, I came up with a compromise that accommodated both our needs.
I was dating a lot via the personals, which I managed for NUVO Newsweekly, and I came up with my own very short type test for romantic prospects, which was handy, because some types I knew were not compatible.
My favorite book in the Myers Briggs is: Please Understand Me: Character and Temperament Types, by David Keirsey and Marilyn Bates
