Introductory Political Meeting (Zoom)

This will be the first meetup for the Progressives, Socialists, and Independents of Orlando group on Meetup.

We’re starting with a virtual meeting (Zoom or Google Meet) to make it easy for members to join. If all goes well, we plan for future meetups to take place in person.

A major topic will be discussing what Progressivism and Socialism mean to us, how these terms are understood in society, and whether left-wing politics is compatible with the Democratic Party or better pursued by being an Independent. We'll also talk about our perspectives on Liberalism and Capitalism.

We’ll cover current events as well, including the Iran war, the state of the economy and inflation, immigration enforcement and the Abolish ICE movement, and other major developments.

Since we’re a local group, we’ll also discuss some Florida politics and whether there is meaningful space for left-wing values here.

And because it’s unavoidable in today’s political climate, we’ll also share thoughts on Donald Trump, the MAGA movement, and the Republican Party, including debates about if the current political system resembles fascism or an oligarchy.

Everyone in the group is welcome to join, even if you’re not deeply versed in politics and simply want to listen or learn.
