2nd meetup for the Progressives, Socialists, and Independents of Orlando group on Meetup.

Part of this meeting will build on topics from the first session, with more in-depth discussion, while still making space for any new members to jump in and share their perspectives.

One major topic will be Electability, specifically whether left-wing candidates identifying as progressives or socialists are electable across the country based on trends and data, and how the concept of electability is typically discussed in American politics.

Another topic will be the Political Spectrum itself, what we mean by left-wing, right-wing, and centrist, whether the American understanding of these terms aligns with political science, and how we should talk about them if it doesn’t.

A third major topic will be the question of Civic Duty, including the idea of the “lesser of two evils”... and whether progressives and leftists have an obligation to vote for Democratic candidates to prevent right-wing victories, regardless of the nominee.

The final planned topic will be Christian Nationalism, and how Christianity has gotten so deeply embedded in right-wing politics in the US. If enough people watch it, we'll be referencing the documentary below (available for free) for much of this part of the discussion:

Bad Faith: Christian Nationalism's Unholy War on Democracy

We’ll also leave room for current events and any topics that come up naturally during the discussion.

Everyone in the group is welcome to join, even if you’re not deeply versed in politics and simply want to listen or learn.

The meeting link will be sent to all who RSVP.
