Synopsis
You asked for chances to practice. Here’s one.

Among the 2,154 people in PMUT’s 2,500+ person Meetup community who told us what they hope to accomplish next, 491 - nearly one in four - said they want to grow in speaking, communication, listening, fluency, or confidence.

On Tuesday, October 13, Project Managers United Toastmasters will turn that goal into an opportunity with a mock Table Topics and Evaluation Contest.

We will follow the timing, structure, and expectations of a Toastmasters contest, but this is a practice event. Results will not lead to Area-level competition.

No advance contestant sign-up is required. Members and guests may volunteer during the meeting as time permits.
Come ready to participate, decide in the moment, or simply observe and learn how the contest format works.

Practice makes progress. This is a chance to try before the stakes are high.

What to Expect
Table Topics: Receive a prompt and deliver a one- to two-minute impromptu response. Practice organizing your thoughts quickly and speaking in the moment.

Evaluation: Listen closely to a model speech and deliver a two- to three-minute evaluation. Practice identifying what worked, choosing useful recommendations, and presenting constructive feedback clearly.

You will experience contest-style timing and procedures in the supportive environment of your home club. No previous contest experience is necessary.

Welcome to Project Managers United Toastmasters!
Project Managers United Toastmasters (PMUT) offers a unique blend of project management and Toastmasters, designed to help people interested in project management strengthen their communication and leadership skills.

Guests are always welcome, whether you are new to project management, seeking to enhance your professional skills, or hoping to expand your network.

For this special meeting, our usual featured PM Forum presentation will be replaced by the mock contest. You are welcome to participate or observe.

Meeting Format

  • Join the call at 5:55 p.m. Eastern Time (Toronto, Ontario, Canada).
  • The meeting begins promptly at 6:00 p.m. and concludes at 8:00 p.m.
  • This is an online meeting held via Zoom.

Optional: After most meetings, several members remain online for a few minutes to answer questions about becoming a paid member of Project Managers United Toastmasters. We discuss Toastmasters’ educational Pathways and share our personal experiences with the club. It is also an opportunity to network informally and get your questions answered.

Paid members receive quarterly consolidated PDU claim receipts, simplifying the process of tracking meeting attendance and roles for submission to PMI. Each two-hour meeting is worth two professional development units.

There is no fee for guests to attend.

RSVP on Meetup to secure your virtual seat and access the Zoom link.
