Welcome to our monthly online accent modification class! This event is a great way to learn how to communicate more effectively and efficiently speaking American English. This is one of many classes in which you'll learn the correct pronunciation of all the sounds (and sound variations) and intonation patterns (melody) of American English.
In today's class, we'll learn to pronounce two sounds in American English that are very difficult for many people from all over the world, regardless of your first language - the /w/ sound (as in "why") and the /j/ sound (as in "yes"). Many persons mispronounce these sounds because they're not present in their first language or they're pronounced differently (for example, the /w/ sound is confused with or sounds like /v/).
We'll discuss how these sounds can be represented in spelled words, what you need to do to make the sounds (what to do with the airflow for each sound, where the sound is made, and how to "vibrate" each sound) and we'll practice these sounds in words and some sentences.
I'll provide as much 1:1 training as I can during the class. I'll also provide you with practice materials you can use at home and teach you the best way to practice to improve on your own.
