According to Marshall.edu, no formal protocol was followed in banning this book and, "Hopkins’ books were included on a list of titles state senator Bob Hall characterized as “obscene,” which was shared with district administrators by a local parents group."

It has been banned in districts in Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Mississippi, New York, North Carolina, Texas, Utah, and Virginia.
