Episode 2: Into the City
Details
Our first paddle at Olney Pond was a success and we've grown to 33 members. Time to take it downtown.
For our second meetup we're heading to the Providence River for an urban paddle through the heart of the city. We'll launch from the South Water Street boat ramp, head north under the historic bridges where the WaterFire gondolas travel, all the way up to Providence Place Mall, then turn back. Round trip is approximately 3.4 miles at a nice and relaxed, social pace.
This route is beginner friendly. Current is minimal and the bridges make for a genuinely unique paddling experience. It should honestly be even less choppy than Olney Pond was a few weeks back.
Meet at the Providence Canoe & Kayak Launch on South Water St at 12:00 PM on Sunday, June 7th. The launch is right by the metal RISD sculpture, just across from the Wild Colonial Tavern. Weather is currently looking like partly cloudy and 75 degrees. I will update as the event draws closer.
Parking: Street parking along South Water St. Arrive a few minutes early to secure a spot before unloading gear.
Bring:
- Your board and paddle
- A USCG-approved life jacket, required while on the water
Loaner gear available on a first come first served basis. I have 2 spare boards with paddles and 1 spare life jacket. If you need any of these, message me directly after you RSVP. If you have extra gear another member could use, please message me as well.
See you on the water.
