We get the great fortune to welcome back astrophysicist Dr. Brian Thomas of Washburn University to speak with us about "Doing science to save our species."

About Dr. Thomas:
Dr. Brian Thomas earned a Bachelor of Science in physics from the University of the Pacific in 1999 and a PhD in physics from the University of Kansas in 2005. Brian is a Professor in the Physics & Astronomy department at Washburn University in Topeka. His main focus is teaching undergraduate courses in physics and astronomy with an emphasis on helping students learn how science works and how they can apply scientific reasoning to everyday life. His research work focuses on how high energy radiation from space affects Earth’s atmosphere and biosphere. Most recently, Dr. Thomas and his team have investigated the possible effects of supernova explosions about 2.5 million years ago about 200 light years from Earth.
