In a job market increasingly shaped by AI, strong human references still make a critical difference. Managing them thoughtfully can elevate your candidacy.

  • Select and Stay in Touch: Choose credible references and keep them informed.
  • Make the Ask Right: Be clear, respectful, and specific.
  • Equip Them Well: Share your resume, job details, and what to highlight.
  • Time It Right: Contact them when you’re moving forward in the process.
  • Leverage AI, Not Replace People: Automated tools help, but credibility is still human.
  • Manage Red Flags: Prep references to frame any concerns constructively.
