Are you excited about LLMs or has their rise to fame disheartened you? Join us for a round-table discussion on the current state of ML and AI. With the rise to fame of LLMs many machine learning and data science specialist have had mixed feelings about where the industry is going. If you are not a part of a company on the cutting edge of AI research where does that leave you?
To get us thinking about the topic we will be reading Choose Your Weapon: Survival Strategies for Depressed AI Academics which is written from the perspective of an academic without the scale to compete with big-tech AI research.
Agenda:
6 - 6:30 Socialization
6:30 - 6:45 Introduction
6:45 - 7:30 Round Table Discussion
Follow by dinner, dessert, or drinks at a local establishment decided on during the event
Would you like to lead a discussion? Reach out to us on Slack: @hanna, @stuart, @madrury.
About ATOM:
Advanced/All Topics on Machine learning ( ATOM ) is a learning and discussion group for machine learning and statistical modeling. We focus on how these ideas are applied to solve real-world problems, so our discussions cover algorithms, implementation, interpretation, rigor, and ethics. We assume some level of familiarity with machine learning, but otherwise, attempt to cover multiple dimensions of what it means to work in machine learning.
As a discussion group, we strongly encourage participation, so be sure to read up about the topic of conversation beforehand!
ATOM can be found on PuPPy’s Slack under the channel #atom, and on PuPPy’s Meetup.com events. Info for the slack channel and PuPPy, in general, can be found at https://www.pspython.com/.
Slides from previous discussions can be found at https://gitlab.com/users/puppy-atom/projects.
