What we'll do:
This event will feature the following presentations:
Talk #1: To AI or Not to AI: Is It the Right Solution for Your Problem?
Speaker: Aditi Godbole
Description: In this talk, we'll dive into the million-dollar question facing many developers today: Does your problem really need an AI-based solution? We are often excited by the potential of AI, but it's crucial to know when it's the right tool for the job. We'll explore practical criteria to evaluate whether AI is suitable for your specific challenges. This includes assessing problem complexity, data availability, and the importance of explainable outputs. We'll also touch on ethical considerations and the potential costs versus benefits of implementing AI solutions. Drawing from real-world examples, we'll discuss scenarios where AI shines - like tackling complex decision-making, pattern recognition, and automation tasks. We'll also look at situations where traditional programming approaches might be more appropriate. By the end of this session, you'll have a clearer framework for deciding when to leverage AI in your projects and when to stick with conventional methods. Whether you're considering your first AI implementation or evaluating existing ones, this talk will help you navigate the AI landscape more effectively in your development work.
Lightning talk: Patching and Splitting Python Wheels
Speaker: George Reilly
Description: What happens when there's an obscure bug in a third-party wheel, they're not going to fix it before their next release, and it's reeeeeally difficult to build? Well, maybe you can patch the wheel. Or what if a wheel is 4GB when it's extracted and your internal tool says Hard No. Well, maybe you can split it.
Talk #2: Formalizing a Language
Speaker: Jeremiah Paige
Description: Python’s grammar is the set of rules that define what is accepted as a legal program. In order for text to get executed on a CPU it is first transformed into valid instructions according to these rules. This talk will show examples of these transformations as well as grammar pulled straight from cpython source and picked apart so it is as easy to understand as Python code.
