What we'll do:
This event will feature the following presentations:
Talk #1: You Should Build a Robot (MicroPython & Microprocessors)
Speaker: Sage Elliott
Description: Thinking about building a robot? You should! But don’t know where to start? In this talk, we'll break down the barriers building your own robotic project using MicroPython and microprocessors. You'll learn what a robot is, why building one is fun (maybe even useful), and how to get started with the essential components. We'll cover microprocessors as the "brain" of your robot, LEDs for visual feedback, actuators for adding movement, and sensors for touch and light.
Whether you're a complete beginner or have dabbled in electronics before, this talk will equip you with the knowledge to start building your own robotic projects.
Lightning talk #1: Statistical Analysis on Network Data
Speaker: Brandon Sherman
Description: Network data appears in a variety of situations in the social sciences. In many contexts, statistical analysis assumes that observations are independent. When dealing with network data, this assumption is unrealistic and requires specialized methods.
Inferential network analysis often utilizes the Exponential Family Random Graph Model (ERGM) to predict tie formation. We’ll show how to use an ERGM to answer questions about a real-world network in a statistically sound way.
Talk #2: v0 + Windsurf: AI Development Workflow
Speaker: Lana Zumbrunn
Description: There are so many AI tools being released that's it hard to learn about them all, yet alone try them out. I'll demo an AI streamlined workflow I used to build a holiday party RSVP and guest chat site using v0 by Vercel and Windsurf IDE by Codeium. Learn how these tools can level up your skills and productivity.
