***SPECIAL GATHERING AT POWELL'S BOOKS***
Psychedelics & Buddhism: Field Trip to Powell’s Books
Our community is heading out of our usual home at Tabor Space for a special evening at Powell’s Books. Together, we’ll gather for a meditation, listen to a talk, and take part in a Q&A with Dr. Michael Ryoshin Sapiro, PsyD—clinical psychologist, Buddhist teacher, and author of Truth Medicine.
About the book:
Truth Medicine is an accessible guide to psychedelic psychotherapy and its transformative potential for healing trauma, depression, and anxiety. Grounded in both research and lived experience, Dr. Sapiro walks readers through the full therapeutic arc—from preparation, to medicine sessions (with a focus on ketamine and an overview of MDMA and psilocybin), to integration. Along the way, he shares inspiring case studies and points readers back to the core teaching: your own wisdom and truth are waiting to be discovered within.
Event Flow:
- Opening meditation
- Author talk on Truth Medicine
- Audience Q&A
This is a chance for our group to step out together, deepen practice, and engage with cutting-edge conversations at the intersection of healing, psychedelics, and Buddhist wisdom.
Our Regular Sessions Include
- Meditation: We open and close each meeting with a meditation session, creating a mindful atmosphere to engage and reflect.
- Engaging Discussions: Delve into fascinating topics such as the history of psychedelics in Buddhist practices, the concept of ego dissolution, and the parallels between meditative states and psychedelic experiences.
- Deep Dive into the Literature: Explore thought-provoking chapters and imagery from books (like Zig Zag Zen: Buddhism and Psychedelics) and scientific research.
- Sutra Exploration: Compare the profound experiences described in ancient sutras, like The Heart Sutra, with those reported in psychedelic journeys.
