Galentine's Day Pair Programming
Details
Calling all programmers! Grab the beautiful tropical fish in your life. Invite that beautiful, talented, brilliant, powerful musk-ox from work. Gather your closest poetic, noble land-mermaids. Because it’s time to celebrate February’s quintessential Parks and Rec holiday with a pair programming night! We’re taking Leslie Knope’s concept of Galentine’s Day and expanding on it: This holiday is for gals and pals of all gender identities. So join us at Slalom Consulting for an evening of pair programming (https://www.agilealliance.org/glossary/pairing), coding challenges, snacks, and a celebration of friendships.
You'll be working through various programming challenges in pairs (in whatever language the pair chooses; it's up to you!), and after a certain amount of time, you'll switch partners and switch problems. This will give us all a chance to work on our algorithmic skills, our general coding skills, and our communication skills. Feel free to come with someone or fly solo—we’ll make sure everyone gets settled into a pairs!
All you need is a laptop and a web browser. If you have time, sign up for the website we'll be using (www.codewars.com) ahead of time.
During this event, we'll be encouraging digital donations to Girls who code who are on a mission to close the gender gap in technology and to change the image of what a programmer looks like and does. You can learn more about their program on their website: https://girlswhocode.com/. If you can't make our event and would still like to donate to Girls who code, you can do so here: https://www.classy.org/give/77372/#!/donation/checkout.
Please note: Photos for social media will be taken at this event. Upon your arrival, please select a color coded sticker to designate whether you are comfortable with having your photo taken or not. If the latter, we will make sure to exclude you from any photos.
Please note that photos for social media will be taken at this event. When you arrive, we will provide color-coded stickers that you can wear if you do not wish to have your photo taken.
All attendees are expected to abide by ITH's Code of Conduct: http://bit.ly/ITH-code-conduct
