L’ Homme du large: Dir Marcel L’Herbier

Details
I first saw the work of Marcel L'Herbier at Cinémathèque Française 15 years ago. It's true to say he is a unique avant-garde theorist and imaginative practitioner. This film has restoration work by Centre national du cinéma et de l'image animée then mastered to a 35mm screening print, so should look good. Live playing with the film. Also this will be our last event till September. But don't forgot our 1st Summer social 29th June.
BFI say:
Avant-garde director Marcel L’Herbier adapted this Balzac story of a Breton fisherman and his shockingly dissolute son, who’s addicted to the pleasures not of the open sea, but of an urban low-life bar. Watch out for a young Charles Boyer and a lesbian kiss. Highly stylised, with its vibrant tints and decorated titles, this is high melodrama with a 1920s twist.
