Meetup : GUSTO - Improving THz Imaging Technologies for Space Observation
Details
Dear Members,
We are pleased to announce the next online workshop in Meetup dedicated to Electronics!
To kick off our series of presentations regarding this subject we are glad to present to you our colleague José Silva who works at SRON (Netherlands Institute for Space Research). At this Institute José and its teams developed a singular camera that operates at very high-frequency channels (1.4, 1.9 and 4.7 THz) that will be used in a NASA mission called GUSTO. GUSTO is a NASA mission that will launch a high-altitude balloon including the cameras developed by SRON. José will present to us some details and the major challenges faced both by the GUSTO mission and the camera technologies itself.
You can check more details about this project at this link: https://www.sron.nl/missions-astrophysics/gusto
The event will last from 18 to 19, including Q&A session. The event is free and requires an inscription on Meetup. You may require to provide connection information to the online platform.
The event is organized jointly by the TICE.Leiria workgroup. La Redoute is sponsoring the event providing the conference material. It will take place on Zoom, we will communicate the link prior to the event. The password in case required: #tice
Thanks in advance for your participation and help in sharing the event,
Hoping to see you there!

In astronomy, terahertz radiation provides key information for the study of star formation zones through the study of mission lines of atoms and molecules present there. For this it is necessary to use a very high spectral resolution only possible with the use of superheterodyne receivers. In this lecture we will address the GUSTO mission, the first ultra-long duration of a stratospheric balloon, funded by NASA under the Explorer program. We will address the mission's objectives and their possible impact on astronomy, as well as the development of its heterodyne chambers, the most advanced hitherto developed in this frequency range.
